The Buzz On The Fuzz

As a citizen of the world, I am supposed to have complete faith in the police force and that they will protect me from criminals. Believing that police will protect me from harm instead of using it as a tool for enforcement has become harder and harder for me to do. All over North America the faces of the police officers who are supposed to "protect and serve" are being plastered across television screens and news papers with captions such as "police brutality" and "police officers saluter unarmed youth." How is one supposed to have faith in the justice system when what seems to be an increasing number of police who are the ones who are responsible for justice being needed?

It scares me to think about the future, to think about where I'll be in ten years, even to think about what will happen after high school. I think too much about what's going to happen and not enough about what is happening so I think that this quote from Einstein is something that I should introduce into the way I think about things. Every moment that passes was once the future and now it's gone, so why not just live in today instead of stressing about tomorrow.

The Government's Blind Eye

On Tuesday, November, 11th, my school took a trip to the Sleeman Center to attend a Remberance Day ceremony. At the ceremony Dr. Bill Winegard made a shocking statement that more Canadian soldiers have lost their lives as a result of their own doing than as a result of the combat they served. Winegard also brought up the topic that the government is not helping soldiers who come back from combat with post traumatic stress disorder. In my opinion, the fact that men and women who have served their government in war, and now that the government is not helping them enter back into society is unacceptable. The government should be recognizing and helping the soldiers that return with PTSD instead of sweeping them under the rug. It is not fair for the government to turn a blind eye on these men and women in their time of need and something needs to be done.

Trick Or Treating Fun

At one time in the history of mankind, Halloween may have been Devil worshiping mayhem, but as society has developed so has October 31st. Instead of wearing masks to hide your face from evil spirits they are now worn to collect candy from neighbours. Halloween, aside from a few broken eggs is completely harmless fun despite its satanic roots.

What Is Poetry To Me?

To me poetry is a way of expressing emotion, sometimes emotions that you've buried so deep that you don't even know you have until the words flow out on your paper. Poems that I have written have taught me much about myself and poems that I have read have taught me about life, love, and all of the injustice in the world. Poetry is a great way to get angry or speak out without having to resort to violence or other things that could hurt someone.

Education In Your Hands

Education can be an incredible thing, but if you're like me sometimes it can be tremendously boring. This is not nessisarialy the teaches fault sometimes students just aren't interested in learning about history or whatever it may happen to be. Teachers can contribute and help an uninterested student get involved by being enthusiastic in their lessons and get their attention. Students can also bring life to a boring subject, but not without some work for example do your History project on something you can relate to like music or football. Education is always available if you are willing to put the effort into learning it.

Writer's Quote

OJohn Lennon
Born October 9th, 1940, John was a big part of music history. His career started when he founded a small band called The Quarry Men in his home town of Liverpool, England. In the 60s John was arguably the leader of the band The Beatles. In 1962 John married Cynthia Lennon only divorce her six years later. In 1970 The Beatles broke up and John went on to be a solo musician until 1975 when he left the music business to raise his second son. In 1980 John along with his wife, Yoko Ono, got back into music and released the album Double Fantasy. John was murdered December 8th, 1980, three weeks after Double Fantasy was released.

"It's weird not to be weird" ~John Lennon

To me the quote "It's weird not to be weird" means that if something isn't weird or creative then it is ordinary and boring. This is important to me when I write because all the thrills and poetry comes from being weird. Without weirdness writing stories or songs wouldn't excite me, instead it would be about as fun as writing a textbook or owner's manual.
